CANTARA PENTHOUSE

This is an award-winning home that is truly imbued with the personality of its owner. We are so proud to have fully delivered not only on our client’s expectations of technology, but to have designed and customized every aspect of it on the same rarified level as the finishes in the home, and the teams of people that created them.

To provide an insight into everyday lifestyle of the house, the client preferred not to press the ‘good morning’ lighting scene each morning, but the ‘entertain’ button instead. This penthouse was imagined from the beginning to be the ultimate expression of our client’s desire to have glamorous cocktail parties with live music and DJs, host the best-ever Oscars red carpet party, and to have a closet anyone in the world would envy.

To accomplish all of that, Cantara had to craft each solution with care. The dining room is a terrific example: The floors are stone, one wall is glass, and music is pumped in constantly through eight speakers and four subwoofers. Despite all those sound-reflecting surfaces, the ceiling is designed so that guests at either table can clearly hear only the guests at that table without a cacophony of other voices and notes.

The twin-projector-and-drop-down-screens solution at work here won two top CEDIA Awards, for Best Media Room (Level II) and Best Innovative Solution. These displays – which include gear that can completely disappear into the ceiling – are designed to be the centerpiece of the homeowner’s Oscar viewing parties, specifically during the red-carpet prologues. Images and sound needed to be either merged or separated in every possible configuration at the client’s whim and touch of a button.

Moreover, the sound system had to incorporate a microphone rig and inputs specifically designed for either a DJ or an emcee during the proceedings. All of that audio had to then cover the entire space without a fraction of a second’s delay. We are absolutely delighted to have been recognized for this work by our prestigious trade organization.

One last thing we have to share. We are so proud of the custom, curved drapery track in this home, and the truly one-of-a-kind material we helped ensure would both capture and conceal light in just the right way. At Cantara, we delight in every aspect of our work but we must admit a particular soft spot for shading and drapery. This project allowed us to truly sing.
